About Acupuncture

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body to promote natural healing, reduce pain, and restore balance. Rooted in the principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture is based on the concept of qi (energy) flowing through pathways called meridians. When qi is blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to discomfort or illness. By inserting thin, sterile needles into precise acupoints, acupuncture helps unblock and redirect energy flow, supporting the body’s ability to heal itself. In modern medical terms, acupuncture is believed to trigger biochemical and neurological changes that promote healing. The insertion of needles can stimulate the nervous system, leading to the release of endorphins (natural pain-relieving chemicals) and other neurotransmitters. It also enhances blood circulation and reduces inflammation, which may help improve the function of various organs and tissues. Additionally, acupuncture has been shown to regulate the autonomic nervous system, supporting stress reduction and hormonal balance. These effects collectively contribute to its therapeutic benefits for a wide range of conditions.

What can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture can treat a wide range of physical, emotional, and mental health conditions by promoting the body’s natural healing processes and restoring balance. Some of the most common issues acupuncture helps with include:

Acupuncture for Emotional Wellbeing & Trauma

Acupuncture can support healing from past trauma by regulating the nervous system, releasing stored emotions, and balancing brain chemistry. By stimulating specific points, it helps shift the body out of a stress response, promoting relaxation and emotional resilience. Trauma often manifests as physical symptoms like tension or fatigue, which acupuncture can relieve by improving circulation and reducing inflammation. It also creates a safe, grounding space, fostering emotional release and stability over time.

Acupuncture for Menopause Symptoms

Acupuncture is thought to help balance the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, which regulates hormonal production. This can reduce the intensity and frequency of hot flashes and night sweats. Many women experience insomnia during menopause. Acupuncture has been found to modulate the autonomic nervous system, making it easier to fall and stay asleep. Joint pain and muscle stiffness are common menopausal symptoms. Acupuncture can increase blood flow and reduce inflammation, providing relief.
